question about the bassdrumm pedal

how often is it usefull, to change the - i don't know exactly the word - feather ?


i was wondering the last weeks, becouse i a was getting slower and slower und thougt, ohhh, am i getting older ?
suddenly, i had the fantastic idea, to change the feather.
it helps. are there any helps, to find out, when it's time to change ?
is's not so easy for me, because the feather is natuarly getting less strong over a long period und you
get used to less strenght.
is wasn't so easy now in a short time, to realize, that it's not my age.
i needed some hours to realize.
so !
are there any rules to realize, that it's time for a change ?

by the way. does anybody know the drummer campbell ?
he is not listed even at the drummerworld.
why not ?
his rigt foot is the fastest, i have ever heard.
his musicality is fantastic and he has a great instinct.
anybody heard him with chris eubank on the first record ?
i saw him some years ago live and his speed was incredible.
rools over six toms up and down in highspeed and on each tome only two strokes.
yes, i kown, speed is not so important.
but his independance is also great.
let me say this. a lot of things, virgil is doing, i saw it before when campbell was doing it.

ahhh, i saw dave weckl two weeks ago or so.

i heard, that kennedy is sick and he takes strong medicine.
he has something with the ... i dont know the word.
if this organs are totally destroyed, you need dialyse ?! you understand ?
i was a littel bit astonished.
all seemed to be very tired.
weckl had some big problems with his set, i thougt. he tried some technical things, but they didn't work.
he tried the solo "from brushes to sticks"
bit it was only 50 %. it was interesting for me, to see, how much your performance need good personal feeling. it was only a half weckl.

of course, there are a lot of great drumers out there.
i was just wondering, that i haven't read the name campbell at different drummer places.
and there only a few, by my oppinion, where i can say, yes, this is drummer xy.
for me, it's important, to recognize the style. and i can recognize him after some seconds.
technical standard is not so important.
but i'am a drummer too and make always the same mistakes.
a funny story is, that i watched some months ago a video by thomas lang on the meinl website.
i didn't knew him and my first thougts were - ohhh, watch a bad drummer is this.
but after a while and watching him und watching the technique und knowing,
that he is one of the most wanted drummer nowadays
i changed my mind and today, i'am fascinated to see him.
cracy, because i still have in my mind, that this was a shit solo.
but his technique, which i didn't really mentioned the first time becomes more and more important.

Tommy Campbell, yes...i believe you meant to say that he played with "Kevin Eubanks" [from "the Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in the USA] on several of Kevin's solo releases...also besides the Eubanks stuff, if you like Tommy, get yourself a copy of John McLaughlin's "Belo Horizonte" [1981] if you can find it...there is some great drumming on it...Tommy's also on the "Zildjian Day in New York" [1987] VHS video along with Acuna, Cobham, Colaiuta, & Gadd.

Tibaults' "Dawg" is a slang expression, most commonly coined [used] by bass player/judge/panelist Randy Jackson on the States' TV Show "American Idol" [or by anyone impersonating him on Mad TV or Saturday Night Live]...it means "friend" or "brother" in a friendly aquaintance way... Dawg (pronounced "Dawg") is like dude or man or bro or amigo. As for the spring on your pedal, I don't know. I've been experimenting with a new pedal lately and I haven't decided whether I like the pedal really loose or moderately tight. It's a personal thing.

I've never heard of a spring actually wearing out, though. Can't you just tighten it more?

time. Great player. He's got very
good facility.

i use sonor giant step.

i am playing with strong resistance.

the angle is about 90 ?

i was playing with the spring about six months, 3 days a week for 4 hours or so.
too much for the spring ?

i like the pedal. but i'am not sure, if i make a big mistake.

i am fast, but i can't hold high speed relaxt over a long time.
and because i play a single pedal, it's quite difficult, to let the doubles on the bassdrum "hang in the air"
if i don't concentrate to the left hand, it's difficult. i am a right hand playing drummer.

i have really no idea, and all i can, i did by my own.
i never watched school videos or had a teacher, except the past two months.

perhaps i should try something ?

no way, no chance. it's tightened maximum.
and doubles weren't nearly impossible.
i need very strong resistance.
if a spring can't really wearing out, i am wondering, what's going on.
i can help myself, as i did and buy a new one,
but in my mind i have something like, something is going wrong.
perhaps, i habe to much requirements on myself.
i compare to much and i compare always with the best and don't have enough time to practice
and sometimes feel unsatisfied and loose the fun.
perhaps, it's not the springs mistake, it's just mine. *ggg*
